Weezer Performs a Greatest Hits and The Blue Album from Start to Finish

Well, i should've written this months ago.
I hope you won't feel this as an outdated post.

Here i just want to share my experience watching one of the long awaited concert in Indonesia (for me).
Yes, it's Weezer. Their first concert in Indonesia and i was there, watching them performing (almost) all their hits.

For me it all began months before January 8 2013, when Rivers Cuomo wrote Jakarta in his facebook status.
It didn't mean anything since there's no announcement from any promotor at the moment.
But hey, i was curious. After all it's Weezer.
If it's true they're going to come to Indonesia, there's no way i would going to miss it.

Apparently the rumor was right, Rivers didn't make that status for nothing.
Weezer was coming to Jakarta and i was preparing to buy myself a ticket.
I also asked some of my friends if they planned to attend the concert, so i bought the ticket with one of my college friends.
My brother would joined us at the concert day.

Long story short, the day finally came.
I already took 3 days off from Monday until Wednesday, since the concert was held in Tuesday.
I stayed at my cousin's where my brother also stayed, because he works in Jakarta.
But on the concert day he had to go to work first, because he didn't take a day off.

I went at 3 pm to meet with my friend at FX and then collected our tickets at the gate next to the concert venue.
The show wasn't going to start until 8 pm yet the venue had filled with a lot people, many of them using Weezer t-shirt.
And since it's Weezer, i had expected to meet with some friends, so there i met Oie and Crey. Hey, it's a small world after all.

The concert was held in Lap D. Senayan, and there were an area provided for the fans filled with event and games from sponsors.
In order to get a good view, me and my friend decided to enter the venue ahead of . Lap. D Senayan is a football field and that day it was raining before the show. So yeah, you could imagine a football field, wet because of rain and muddy in some area.
We made it to get a place right behind the sound mixer area. Well, it's not that great, the view from there, but it's quite good. I could see Rivers, before the show, checking the stage and posed for the spectators in the VIP area.

And then, there they were.
Weezer.
Opening their concert that night with one their hits "(If You're Wondering) If I Want You To" from the album Raditude. Rivers opened the concert by saying, Kami Weezer (seriously, he said it in Indonesian).
The crowds started to sing along with them, including me.

Yeah, you could imagine it. Listening to their songs from mid 1990's when cassettes were still around, and then CD took over, until now where MP3 is all around us. And now i watched them performing live in front of my eyes.

And when the band sang "Perfect Situation", one of the hits from their Make Believe album, there was a loud chorus from the audience. One of the best part from the first half of the show, The Greatest Hits part that is, was when they sang "Island in The Sun". It wasn't they regular guitar opening following the song. Unexpectedly Rivers sang "Heavy Rotation" for the opening, a song from an idol group in Japan AKB 48. Speaking of AKB48, Indonesia is the first country outside Japan to have a sister group for AKB48, which is JKT48.

3 songs from the album Pinkerton ended the first half of the show. Weezer went to the back stage and we weren't left alone. In the middle of their break time, a guy named Karl introduced himself to the crowd. He is a crew in the band and has been following them since the beginning of Weezer. We were treated with pictures, old pictures of Weezer in their youths.

The blue banner with Weezer name printed on top of it opened the second half of the show. It was Blue Album from start to finish, just like the show title. It opened with "My Name is Jonas" the crowd started to sing along again. The crowd voice seemed to reach their peak when the band played "Buddy Holly". And just like the album, the show ended with "Only in Dreams". I knew that was going to be their last song, still i hoped for an encore that were never going to be.

It was a joyful show to see. Never would have thought that i'd be able to watch them live.

Let's just hope they'll be back and this time they will sing all songs in Pinkerton. Personally i'm waiting for "No Other One" to be played. While my friends, i asked them before the concert, would like "Good Life" to be played. Unfortunately both of the songs weren't played, so Weezer, you better be back to Indonesia. There are still unplayed songs for me to hear.

PS : you can check the song list they performed in Jakarta below.
